Lanvin = French, posh, quirky, luxury. Malibu = Beach, faded, loungey, privledged. Not much in common these two things. But a little shop full of plastic foliage, 30s case displays and Lanvin goodies exists at Malibu Country Mart.

It was early and bright out so my pictures are pressed up against the window - as is typical of me and French luxury brands.

Lately in magazines when i see who makes something I like it's Carven or Celine. Celine I know because I'm practically obsessed with Phoebe Philo. But Carven is a little new to me. It was everywhere in Paris so to me it's synonymous with that certain chic but not totally played out.

I thought about buying this jacket in Paris but am so glad I didn't since it was on sale at Net-a-porter when i got home. I now own it and am very conscious of how sloppy I can be in the course of a day.

Recently I was fortunate to be able to spend a week in Paris and another couple of weeks between Northern France and Germany. Much has been said about Parisian style and it mostly lived up to the stereo types. (I actually saw Charlotte Gainsbourg outside the Tarrance Conrad shop, looking very gamine and slightly bewildered. The baby bump convinced me she wasn't just another wafty French girl, but one of the original wafty French girls.)

Anyway, I found COS, Swedish chain store that I really, really like and curse the inability to make purchases online or at a shop in the states. I imagine This is Naive being into these clothes. I brought back the perfect t-shirt in navy and grey, skinny tan pants, an early 80s inspired little sweater, Jil Sander by Raf Simons inspired bright orange blouse and a sizable black bag that manages not to look too clunky.

I'm a tad embarrassed to admit I found these in American Vogue, reading the de regure profile of a celeb. But it's Ann Hatahway, a very nice celeb with great style. Now that it is cold again* this wool Pendleton over-shirt is an option, if only I could figure out what to wear it with. I found it in Long Beach the best vintage shopping I've done in the LA area. The Rockabilly** crowd is dedicated. So much good stuff down there. The jacket has really cool structured shoulders and a tiny bit os a trapeze shape going on. I feel like a black pencil skirt and heels but not overtly sexy, just sleek. I like the idea of a big belt, but that is so hard to wear all day. Damn my pragmatic nature.

*The coldest summer ever in LA. I feel robbed.

I run into Charles Anastase at Opening Ceremony often. It is one of the few boutiques I go to anymore to paw through the racks. Everything there is interesting and often it's beautiful too. I like this more organic way* of discovering designers. Anastase's clothes feel special. This mash up of lady-like, pop-y, modern, sort of indulgent in the details. Things appear very well made.

I love this color blocked, even though they are very neutral blocks of color, jacket. It is much nicer in person. The fabric is a sturdy smooth canvas, collar has that slightly-higher-than-normal band to give it a 70s vibe, the perfect tobacco color and just-apparent-enough-stitching. It might be a good alternative to my favorite jacket of all time that I stained recklessly biting into a plum.

It has gotten to be a bit of an obsession. I find myself always looking at shoes in search of the perfect black stilettos. They can be either round or pointy. No platform, which is a sea change for me. I typically love all platforms but lately the Louboutins are starting to feel sort of stripper-ish. A low vamp to show some flesh, but sturdy enough to spend the day in.

I really like this line, which is unexpected since I was never super into Tom Binns that kicked the whole mess-of-chains trend off. And it's a collaboration from J Crew. Just a few years ago they were doing critter pants!
